ANDY MARTIN SAYS MARK KIRK’S $50,000 CONTRIBUTION TO THE ILLINOIS REPUBLICAN PARTY REEKS OF CONFLICT OF INTEREST AND STATE PARTY CORRUPTION
MARTIN SAYS “FUND RAISING” LAWS ARE DESIGNED TO UNDERMINE HONEST POLITICS; THE ILLINOIS “COMBINE” IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF A PERPETUAL MONEY MACHINE THAT USES CASH TO CORRUPT GOVERNMENT
(CHICAGO)(September 3, 2009) Republican U. S. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will hold a Chicago news conference Thursday, September 3rd to release a letter asking Illinois Republican State chairman Pat Brady to return a “tainted” $50,000 contribution from senate candidate Mark Kirk.
“If anyone wants a textbook example of why our national politics is so corrupted by money, and why the Illinois Republican Party is corrupted by a bipartisan ‘Combine’ that controls both parties, Mark Kirk’s donation of $50,000 to the Illinois Republican Party (“IRP”) is the classic evidence,” Martin says.
“At the national level, politicians have written ‘campaign spending’ laws that are anything but. Incumbents such as Mark Kirk are encouraged to create what amount to perpetual money machines, raising money constantly. This cash is available as a personal slush fund to subsidize any form of political activity they want. Legislators such as Kirk then sell their votes in Congress to raise money for their slush funds.
“Kirk raised over a million dollars before he even told people if he was running for any office. People were giving Kirk cash to do with as he pleased, and he was giving them his vote in return. Kirk's money does not come from Illinois contributors; it is virtually all ‘Beltway Dollars,’ from lobbyists and special interests.
“For example, over a period of time Kirk squeezed $100,000 from Exelon, the utility company. Kirk then delivered his vote for ‘cap and trade’ that would return a billion dollars to Exelon executives. This was ‘honest graft’ in its most repugnant sense. All of this dirty money and vote selling was technically legal, if despicable. Kirk was selling out the people of Illinois to put cash in his own pocket.
“Kirk recently used his “dirty dollars’ to donate $50,000 to the IRP to effectively purchase a senate nomination.
“The IRP rewarded Kirk by ‘endorsing’ his campaign for the U. S. Senate. Kirk essentially bought IRP support with tainted cash. Any honest candidate wishing to run for the senate finds himself locked out of the process by Kirk’s graft and the IRP’s willingness to accept graft and sell support in return.
"Kirk’s tactic of buying control of the IRP is a classic ‘Combine’ technique. The bipartisan Illinois ‘Combine’ is a loosely affiliated series of individuals who function as a perpetual government, with both parties rewarding their ‘opponents’ so that this group of elite fixers stays in constant control of state and national government. Mark Kirk and Obama White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, for example, are both close political associates and Combine stooges.
“The essence of Combine control is that special interest cash such as Kirk’s is used to dominate both political parties. Let me be clear: I represent Main Street Republicans; Mark Kirk is the candidate of the Daley Machine-dominated ‘Combine.’ Republicans cannot win in 2010 by being two-faced about Combine corruption in both political parties. They can’t claim they are for ‘reform’ and ‘throwing the rascals out’ when they use the same techniques as the incumbents they are attacking.
“IRP State Chairman Pat Brady is a former federal prosecutor. He of all people knows how subtle ‘deals’ and ‘campaign cash’ are used to buy influence and corrupt politics. I am asking Pat to return Kirk’s tainted $50,000 beltway Dollars, and to announce that the IRP will endorse an ‘open primary’ with no secret support or corrupt influence for Kirk or any other primary challenger.
“How can anyone have confidence that the IRP is an open and honest political organization when the appearance of Kirk’s corruption and conflict of interest is so overwhelming? Kirk forks over $50,000 and buys the IRP’s support. Could it be any clearer?
“Pat Brady has an opportunity to make a fresh start; I am giving him an opportunity to break with the past and point the way to a corruption-free future for Illinois Republicans,” Martin will state in releasing his letter to Brady.
