(CHICAGO) The fund raiser featuring Mark Kirk on Tuesday August 4th was a desultory failure. Chicago Police provided six (6) officers and two patrol cards to protect Andy Martin from any retaliatory attacks because he was picketing the Peninsula Hotel where the $500 a person fundraiser was being held. The Peninsula Hotel security staff also deployed over a dozen security officers.
“It was like an armed camp out there,” Martin says. “But we got the message across. We are in this race to stay. Our spies inside the hotel said most of the attendees at the event were coming with free tickets, so it is likely the cocktail party will not be a moneymaker. Kirk is losing his fundraising touch. Tom Cross and Mark Kirk apparently gave away tickets to avoid an embarrassing appearance.
“We were there, with police protection, and we will continue to be there. Republican big-wigs may try to back Mark, but the average Republican voter despises Kirkie.
“And then there is State Senator Kirk (‘My real name is John Kerry’) Dillard, who attended the cocktail party. Dillard was listed as “for” Mark Kirk before Dillard said he was not supporting Mark Kirk. Which is it Dillard? Fish or foul? Are you for Mark Kirk, or neutral? You can’t be both. Dillard wants to be governor when he can’t even decide whether to make a public statement one way or the other disclosing if he is backing Mark Kirk or not?

In the past few days, an attorney has filed a copy of what purports to be some sort of Kenyan birth record of President Barack Obama. There has been a great flurry of comment about this document in a wide cross-section of the media, both meathead media (my name for the “mainstream” media) and untraditional channels.
In 2008 I authored the book “Obama: The Man Behind the Mask,” and I have written extensively on Obama’s origins. Some credit me with being the “originator” of the birther movement. That is partly true and partly untrue. I have indeed written about the president’s somewhat opaque origins; but I have not by any means subscribed to many of the more extreme claims that have been made.
In fact, in some cases I have debunked "birther" theories. While I have questioned Obama’s origins, I have never believed he was born in Kenya.
There has been a lot of back-and-forth about the president’s birth. Many, including myself, expected that most of the energy behind these questions would dissipate after the election. I was mistaken. Questions about the president are “growing, not slowing.”
Some people think he gains politically by painting the “birthers” (as the meathead media have styled them) as kookie, others disagree. I have filed a lawsuit in Hawai’i state courts seeking access to Mr. Obama’s original, 1961 typewritten certificate because I believe it is an archive of American history that should be open to the public. Release of the original document would alleviate at least some of the doubt which exists.
Frankly, I do not think the president profits from prolonging the controversy about his legitimacy. That is my considered political judgment based on over 40 years in national and state politics. Rather, I see a slowly but steadily increasing public consensus that something is amiss.
I think it would be beneficial if at least some of the doubts about the president’s origins could be put to rest.
The “Kenyan birth certificate” (“KBC”)(which is admittedly not a birth certificate eo nomine) was filed in a federal court. There is a high probability that the document is a forgery.
But who forged the KBC? Was it opponents or proponents? When was the KBC forged? I have publicly adduced one theory, and suggested the existence of a second, more sinister, explanation for the appearance of the document. But no one really knows.
Someone apparently forged a birth document concerning the President of the United States. The American people have a right to a thorough and impartial investigation of this matter.
If it turns out that someone in fact forged the KBC to obstruct justice, then that person should be criminally prosecuted. There is no place for forgery or lies on either side of the Obama birth controversy. I have consistently rejected lies as an appropriate response to Barack Obama’s own stream of distortions and fabrications.
Because the document is on file in a federal court, and because the document may represent an attempt to obstruct justice, the Department of Justice indisputably has jurisdiction to conduct an investigation of such a document.
Most respectfully, I would urge you to do the following:
First, I would suggest you consider appointing an independent counsel (or “special prosecutor”), preferably someone who is a Republican but an attorney who has a criminal justice, and not an actively political, background.
Second, if a preliminary review of the document reveals that it is not authentic, and I am sure that will not take a great deal of effort on a threshold basis, I would suggest you allow the counsel to convene a grand jury to investigate the provenance of the material. Even a forged document can have a continuing corrosive effect on the legitimacy of the president.
I am prepared to come to Washington (or possibly California where the KBC was uttered) and testify as an expert witness on the controversy. I have no expertise in examining the authenticity of paperwork.
In closing, let me be clear. I have no investment in the document, or the swirl of activity concerning the document and related claims. I have devoted myself to seeking factual information about Mr. Obama, and seeking to ascertain the truth. Nothing more.
Substantially all of the controversial claims I have made about the president in my book and columns have subsequently been confirmed. I bear him no ill will. But I do respectfully disagree with those, who may include the president, who feel the continuing existence of the growing doubts is not a serious matter.

Dear Superintendent Weis:
I would like to begin by thanking you for your efforts on behalf of the people of Chicago. Unlike “Perfesser" Henry Gates of Harvard, who appears to believe that police/citizen contacts are merely an opportunity for race baiting, I believe that your department performs an incredibly difficult function under incredibly difficult conditions, and does its best.
I know there have been breaches of procedure and violations of the law, but I am confident you do not tolerate such abuses and will do your best to ferret out the miscreants.
We can indeed have vigorous law enforcement and still be fully compliant with constitutional standards. Although I am a conservative, and favor strong measures to enforce the law, I also believe in full and fair compliance with constitutional protections.
Tuesday we will be picketing my opponent outside the Peninsula Hotel. An announcement of the event accompanies this letter.
To avoid any confusion with local district officers on the scene, I am asking for your assistance in coordinating locations, procedures, etc. to ensure a harmonious confrontation. Our goal is to comply fully with the law.
The Peninsula Hotel creates unusual problems because the entry canopy overlooking the main entrance is quite large, and the sidewalk is restricted by the canopy and several hotel functions. I would like to suggest we stand on the east side of the sidewalk under the canopy, which will allow for a full view but still keep us at a reasonable distance from the main door.
We would also like to be able to distribute literature.
Please check with your staff and get back with us so that we can work together to protect the rights of all parties. Hopefully you can fax us a written confirmation so we have something to deliver if our presence is questioned.

Tuesday we will be picketing my opponent outside the Peninsula Hotel. An announcement of the event accompanies this letter.
To avoid any confusion with local district officers on the scene, I am asking for your assistance in coordinating locations, procedures, etc. to ensure a harmonious confrontation. Our goal is to comply fully with the law.
The Peninsula Hotel creates unusual problems because the entry canopy overlooking the main entrance is quite large, and the sidewalk is restricted by the canopy and several hotel functions. I would like to suggest we stand on the east side of the sidewalk under the canopy, which will allow for a full view but still keep us at a reasonable distance from the main door.
We would also like to be able to distribute literature.
Please check with your staff and get back with us so that we can work together to protect the rights of all parties. Hopefully you can fax us a written confirmation so we have something to deliver if our presence is questioned.

Senate candidate from Illinois, will hold a Chicago news conference Tuesday to announce he has asked Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate a purported “Kenyan birth certificate” of Barack Obama.
“In my personal opinion,” Martin will state, “The purported ‘Kenyan birth certificate’ (“KBC”) of Barack Obama is a forgery. But who forged it, and why? These are questions that Americans want answered.
“Over the past five years, beginning in August, 2004, I have written a number of columns and a bestselling book that Barack Obama’s operatives have attacked. But almost every allegation that I made in those columns and in my book has ultimately been proven true. Obama himself has admitted many of my claims.
“The only exception to the ‘truth’ of my factual claims is my expressed 'theory' involving Obama and Frank Marshall Davis. I labeled the Obama-Davis connection a theory, not a fact.
“I was the first, for example, to suggest Barack Obama was born with dual US/UK nationality, a claim that he later admitted.
“I filed the first, and so far only, lawsuit in Hawai’i to open to public view what I believe is now an archive of American history: Barack Obama’s original, typewritten 1961 Hawaiian birth certificate. Obama has obstructed access to that document.
“A California attorney has now filed a purported KBC with a federal forum. The Department of Justice and FBI automatically have jurisdiction to investigate matters filed in federal court.
“I want to stress that I have no connection of any sort with the KBC. And I have serious questions about its provenance. In particular, two theories interest me. First, I think there is a very real possibility that this document is a ‘smoking gun,’ but not the smoking gun that so-called 'birthers' are seeking.
“'Birthers' claim me as their Godfather, and in a sense I am; but I am not in fact a birther myself. I do not accept many of the theories that they have propounded. I continue to believe Obama was born in Hawai’i, although under suspicious circumstances. That is why Obama does not want the typewritten original document of his birth made public.
“I suspect the KBC may be a forgery that was created by Obama himself, as part of his admissions package to Occidental College. Obama forged the KBC to falsely claim Kenyan birth as part of his ‘affirmative action’ application to Occidental. That is a very real explanation for the KBC. The KBC may also explain why Obama has shrouded his college records in secrecy; he should now release all of them to the public.
“My second theory as to who forged the KBC is more sinister. But based on Ms. Taitz’ provenance, and my contacts with various intelligence agencies, I can see another potential source of the forged KBC.
“Which of these possible explanations, or some other explanation that has yet to be proffered, is the correct one to corroborate the authenticity or forgery (or “both”) of the KBC remains to be seen.
“Someone forged a birth document concerning the President of the United States. He may have forged it, or someone else may have forged it. The American people have a right to a thorough and impartial investigation of this matter.
“I am releasing [Tuesday] my request to the FBI and AG to open a criminal investigation of his document. It is now apparently a federal court record. Therefore, federal criminal jurisdiction indisputably exists.
“If it turns out that someone forged the KBC to obstruct justice, then that person should be criminally prosecuted. There is no place for forgery or lies on either side of the Obama birth controversy. I have consistently rejected lies as an appropriate response to Barack Obama’s own stream of distortions and fabrications.
“We need a special prosecutor, or independent counsel, who is free of entanglements with the Obama administration.
“I no longer call the national media ‘mainstream media.’ They are 'meathead media’ in my view. Over and over again they have tried to cover up reasonable questions about Obama’s past. Dear Tolbert:
It seems that like a perennial blight, you are always there to embarrass New Trier Township Republicans with your dirty, Daley-style corruption of the Republican Party.
I regret the necessity to send this legal notice but your latest misbehavior and subservience to Andy McKenna may make legal action unavoidable.
Your township web site lists all of the candidates for Governor, but only one candidate for U.S. Senator, “Our candidate” Mark Kirk. Obviously, you are trying to rig the party’s support for one office while remaining “open” for other offices. As a “banker,” or self-styled banker, you should know such discrimination violates both Illinois and federal law.
My experience with New Trier Republicans is that they very democratically conduct an “endorsement” session at which they invite all candidates for all offices to appear. No such endorsement session has been held for any office. Thus Kirk is not “your” candidate and not NTRO’s candidate. The web site claim is objectively false.
I respect your right as an individual to support whomever you wish. But you have no right to rig your township organization without any legal authorization from the committeemen to do so.
At some point in the future, NTRO may conduct an endorsement session for all offices, and I suppose you can try to corrupt that vote when it takes place. But at least until all of the committeemen have assembled and voted for all the offices through a formal and independent procedure, you are not allowed to substitute your personal choice as the organization’s choice.
In order to avoid a lawsuit next week, in which you personally and your personal assets will also be placed at risk as an admitted supporter of Mr. Kirk, I will offer you one of two reasonable options:
You can remove Kirk from the “Our Candidates” list, or you can list all candidates who have filed with the U. S. Senate as a candidate for that office (U. S. Senate candidates must file with the U. S. Senate). That includes me, and my web site. All I am asking for is a fair and level playing field.
If you persist in fraudulently using the NTRO web site to broadcast a nonexistent endorsement, a lawsuit will be filed against you, Kirk and NTRO seeking damages as well as additional relief.
In closing, please allow me to offer some thoughts which many would consider wise words concerning Mr. Kirk.
First, superficially, Mark Kirk appears to be an attractive candidate. Superficially. Mark has raised money in the past, as an incumbent. However, his fund raising prowess as a statewide candidate in a party that is incredibly hostile to him is unproven. Kirk's prior fund raising was nothing but political extortion inside the Washington Beltway. Previously Mark has not generated any significant financial support inside Illinois.
Second, while you claim Kirk is “purple,” many would consider him "pink." Kirk is more liberal than any of the Blue Dog Democrats in Congress. Kirk and Barney Frank make a nice pair together. But someone who is not even up to the standards of a Blue Dog Democrat is a radical, not a moderate.
Third, while the media support Kirk as the conventional choice for Republicans in our primary, the media are not going to back Kirk in November 2010 when he comes up against a Democrat. The media’s agenda is liberal, and they will break for the “D.” So current media adulation is a false indicator of Kirk's future media acceptability.
Fourth, with over forty (40) years of experience in Illinois politics, I have never seen a candidate who creates more hostility among the Republican rank-and-file than Mark Kirk. The anger against Kirk is incredible. You may not agree with my views, or may dislike me personally, but you ought not to so easily discount forty years of experience.
Fifth, Kirk’s fundamental political strategy is fatally flawed. Your piece at NTRO.org suggests that the way for Republicans to win in Illinois is to go “liberal.” That is just flatly wrong. "Liberalism" is a theology, and theological holy warriors are not going to vote for the alternative when they can vote for one of their own true believers.
Conservatism, on the other hand, is not a rigid ideology or orthodoxy. Conservatives come in all shapes and sizes. They can open their minds, and often switch their votes. Are you planning to recruit Alan Keyes to move back to Illinois “permanently” for the second time if the media slip Kirk a Mickey?
I will be marching this Wednesday in the Lake Forest Day Parade. That area used to be Mark Kirk's “base.” It no longer is. Please answer a question for me: if Mark Kirk has lost his Republican base in the Tenth District, how is he going to build a new “base” in the statewide Republican party, which is considerably more conservative than Republicans in the 10th District? Good question.

Dear Tolbert:
It seems that like a perennial blight, you are always there to embarrass New Trier Township Republicans with your dirty, Daley-style corruption of the Republican Party.
I regret the necessity to send this legal notice but your latest misbehavior and subservience to Andy McKenna may make legal action unavoidable.
Your township web site lists all of the candidates for Governor, but only one candidate for U.S. Senator, “Our candidate” Mark Kirk. Obviously, you are trying to rig the party’s support for one office while remaining “open” for other offices. As a “banker,” or self-styled banker, you should know such discrimination violates both Illinois and federal law.
My experience with New Trier Republicans is that they very democratically conduct an “endorsement” session at which they invite all candidates for all offices to appear. No such endorsement session has been held for any office. Thus Kirk is not “your” candidate and not NTRO’s candidate. The web site claim is objectively false.
I respect your right as an individual to support whomever you wish. But you have no right to rig your township organization without any legal authorization from the committeemen to do so.
At some point in the future, NTRO may conduct an endorsement session for all offices, and I suppose you can try to corrupt that vote when it takes place. But at least until all of the committeemen have assembled and voted for all the offices through a formal and independent procedure, you are not allowed to substitute your personal choice as the organization’s choice.
In order to avoid a lawsuit next week, in which you personally and your personal assets will also be placed at risk as an admitted supporter of Mr. Kirk, I will offer you one of two reasonable options:
You can remove Kirk from the “Our Candidates” list, or you can list all candidates who have filed with the U. S. Senate as a candidate for that office (U. S. Senate candidates must file with the U. S. Senate). That includes me, and my web site. All I am asking for is a fair and level playing field.
If you persist in fraudulently using the NTRO web site to broadcast a nonexistent endorsement, a lawsuit will be filed against you, Kirk and NTRO seeking damages as well as additional relief.
In closing, please allow me to offer some thoughts which many would consider wise words concerning Mr. Kirk.
First, superficially, Mark Kirk appears to be an attractive candidate. Superficially. Mark has raised money in the past, as an incumbent. However, his fund raising prowess as a statewide candidate in a party that is incredibly hostile to him is unproven. Kirk's prior fund raising was nothing but political extortion inside the Washington Beltway. Previously Mark has not generated any significant financial support inside Illinois.
Second, while you claim Kirk is “purple,” many would consider him "pink." Kirk is more liberal than any of the Blue Dog Democrats in Congress. Kirk and Barney Frank make a nice pair together. But someone who is not even up to the standards of a Blue Dog Democrat is a radical, not a moderate.
Third, while the media support Kirk as the conventional choice for Republicans in our primary, the media are not going to back Kirk in November 2010 when he comes up against a Democrat. The media’s agenda is liberal, and they will break for the “D.” So current media adulation is a false indicator of Kirk's future media acceptability.
Fourth, with over forty (40) years of experience in Illinois politics, I have never seen a candidate who creates more hostility among the Republican rank-and-file than Mark Kirk. The anger against Kirk is incredible. You may not agree with my views, or may dislike me personally, but you ought not to so easily discount forty years of experience.
Fifth, Kirk’s fundamental political strategy is fatally flawed. Your piece at NTRO.org suggests that the way for Republicans to win in Illinois is to go “liberal.” That is just flatly wrong. "Liberalism" is a theology, and theological holy warriors are not going to vote for the alternative when they can vote for one of their own true believers.
Conservatism, on the other hand, is not a rigid ideology or orthodoxy. Conservatives come in all shapes and sizes. They can open their minds, and often switch their votes. “Lake Foresters invited me to march in the Lake Forest Day Parade,” Martin announced Sunday. “And I accepted. I am delighted the American Legion in honoring boy scouting. Scouting is one of the great experiences for young men and women. We can’t do enough to encourage scouting. I salute the Legion.
"Lake County used to be part of Mark Kirk’s ‘base.’ It is still part of his congressional district. What does it say about Kirk’s fading base that his own constituents are inviting an insurgent to march alongside the incumbent? What does it say about Kirk that he has lost his conservative base, and now wants to face a larger and more conservative statewide primary electorate? It says Kirk is delusional. He thinks his Beltway cash can overcome home-state rejection.
“Mark Kirk has abandoned the Republican Party. His primary candidacy is an act of flatulent conceit. People in Lake Forest are not dumb. They know Kirk is also a sure loser for reasons which the ‘meathead media’ are loath to discuss.
“During the last campaign, Kirk referred to African-Americans as ‘thugs’ and 'goons.' What a door-opener in minority communities. Kirk is unwelcome in almost 20% of the state because of his vile racist language.
“We need to rebuild the Republican Party as the Party of all the people, as the Party of Lincoln and Dirksen, not 'thugs' and 'goons.' If I am the nominee in 2010, I will take my senate campaign to minority neighborhoods. I will take our message of opportunity to every street corner in this state, not just white street corners.
“People in Lake Forest may be predominately white, but they are part of the great Republican tradition of Lincoln and Dirksen, a tradition that Kirk rejected when he characterized his opponents as ‘thugs.’ Lake Foresters are in the process of divorcing from Kirk’s racist rhetoric.
“After our competing appearances in the Lake Forest Day Parade, the most important civic event in Lake Forest, Republican voters are going to begin an 'insurgency’ in the direction of my campaign. I am the insurgent candidate against the hidebound leadership of the Illinois Republican Party. I am running a campaign that is going to create an insurgency for change from one end of this state to the other. From rich and tony neighborhoods, to the most impoverished and neglected areas. We will all be one state in my campaign.

But “Dr. Martin” is once again drawing blood from President Obama, with Martin’s characterization of Obama’s medical reform proposals with “one word: euthanasia.”

“The Washington Post, which has written extensively about my Internet influence, is afraid to even mention my name,” says Martin. “That’s the kind of fear I put in the mainstream media and their proto-socialists on Capitol Hill.
“The pro-Obama, pro-socialized medicine, mainstream media are terrified that, once again, we are doing to ‘Obamascare’ what we did to Obama’s birth certificate and religion: puncturing Obama’s myths and obfuscations and defining Obama as a threat to the American people.
“Obviously, senior citizens are the most vulnerable, which is why Obama’s ‘medical experiments’ target seniors by restricting their care. When I saw Rahm Emanuel’s brother's plans to cut off care to seniors, I was reminded of the Third Reich. Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel is truly a successor to ‘Dr. Death.’

“No doctor should call for limiting medical procedures or medicines. What is Obama going to do with all the seniors he wants to kill? Make lampshades out of them?
“There is another reason, an evil reason, why Obama is targeting seniors. Seniors are not only physically vulnerable, they are mentally and emotionally vulnerable. They don’t have the ‘fight' to battle bureaucracies the way younger, healthier people do. The 'old, old' are often alone, most often women. So Obama is picking on elderly women ‘because he can.’
“The senate campaign begins in earnest next week, so I took a few days off to spend with my mother in Florida. She calls Obama’s proposals to curtail her Medicare ‘Obamascare.’ That’s my new term for what Obama is proposing.
“My mother would kill me if I released her real age, but she depends on medicines and doctors to stay alive. I don’t want Obama’s ‘witch doctors,’ starting with Dr. Mengele’s successor, ‘Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel,’ to cut off vital care for my mom.
"As both a senate candidate and source of strength for conservatives on the Internet, I do not want Obama to apply his witch doctor medicine to any of America’s citizens, not to any seniors, not to anyone else.
“Obama may be of Kenyan origins but we do not want Kenyan witch doctors substituting for medical doctors in American hospitals and doctors’ offices.
“As for the Emanuel brothers, and their Republican friend, my primary opponent, Mark Kirk, I despise their attempt to revive the medical practices of the Third Reich by seeking to exterminate vulnerable senior citizens. Kirk and the Emanuel brothers grew up on the North Shore of suburban Chicago. On what meat do these ‘little Caesars’ feed?
“Obama-the-Witch-Doctor should allow congress to enact intelligent medical reforms for American citizens, not for illegal aliens.
“I will continue my efforts to expose Obamascare for what it is: in a word, ‘euthanasia,’” Martin will state. “We will continue to urge Mark Kirk to join the Obama administration, where he can be assured of a job by his good buddy Rahm Emanuel, maybe working with Emanuel’s demented brother ‘Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel.’
“I want to ensure that every American makes the connection between ‘Dr. Mengele’ and ‘Dr. Emanuel.’
“We have the greatest health care in the world. It needs improvements, absolutely. I am a strong supporter of targeted reforms. But we are not going to let Obama-the-Witch-Doctor destroy American medicine and reduce us to the level of care received by Kenyans. We will fight to block ‘Obamascare’ to protect the lives and longevity of every American’s mom and dad.”
