ANDY MARTIN WILL PICKET TOM CROSS/MARK KIRK “RECEPTION” ON CHICAGO’S MAGNIFICENT MILE AT THE PENINSULA HOTEL

(CHICAGO)(August 4, 2009) Internet Powerhouse Andy Martin is working to coordinate with Chicago Police so he can picket Mark Kirk at the Peninsula Hotel on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago.

“On the day that petitioning begins (today, August 4th) we will have ordinary citizens out soliciting signatures on petitions,” Martin says. “Mark Kirk will be playing the same old ‘Beltway Bandit’ game and meeting with people who can afford $500 for ‘cocktails.’ That must be some booze.

“Kirk has profited personally from Washington lobbyist scams. He is a career Beltway functionary who has spent virtually no time in the private sector. These political parasites live off their lobbyist sponsors.

“I have no problem with wealthy people giving money up to the legal limit; I wish I had some of that cash too. But when Kirk’s ‘campaign’ is merely a series of influence-peddling sessions with people trying to buy access, he is not representing the people, he is representing his powerful donors.

“I am not for sale; Mark Kirk has been bought and sold over and over again.

“The Illinois Republican party is being badly mismanaged by ‘country club liberals’ who owe their financial success to ties with the Daley Machine. Need I mention names? Kirk is backed by these people, and he is following in their footsteps. I want to broaden the base of the party. Kirk’s ‘strategy,’ such as it is, is doomed to failure.

“I increasingly believe we are going to stun the political world with an upset victory on February 2nd. Mark Kirk’s arrogance and contempt for ordinary Republicans is our secret weapon.”

Martin plans to picket from approximately 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Kirk’s cocktail party is at one of Chicago’s poshest hotels, The Peninsula, 180 W. Superior Street.

REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE AT PICKETING OF POLITICAL EVENT

Dear Superintendent Weis:

I would like to begin by thanking you for your efforts on behalf of the people of Chicago. Unlike “Perfesser" Henry Gates of Harvard, who appears to believe that police/citizen contacts are merely an opportunity for race baiting, I believe that your department performs an incredibly difficult function under incredibly difficult conditions, and does its best.

I know there have been breaches of procedure and violations of the law, but I am confident you do not tolerate such abuses and will do your best to ferret out the miscreants.

We can indeed have vigorous law enforcement and still be fully compliant with constitutional standards. Although I am a conservative, and favor strong measures to enforce the law, I also believe in full and fair compliance with constitutional protections.

Tuesday we will be picketing my opponent outside the Peninsula Hotel. An announcement of the event accompanies this letter.

To avoid any confusion with local district officers on the scene, I am asking for your assistance in coordinating locations, procedures, etc. to ensure a harmonious confrontation. Our goal is to comply fully with the law.

The Peninsula Hotel creates unusual problems because the entry canopy overlooking the main entrance is quite large, and the sidewalk is restricted by the canopy and several hotel functions. I would like to suggest we stand on the east side of the sidewalk under the canopy, which will allow for a full view but still keep us at a reasonable distance from the main door.

We would also like to be able to distribute literature.

Please check with your staff and get back with us so that we can work together to protect the rights of all parties. Hopefully you can fax us a written confirmation so we have something to deliver if our presence is questioned.
