Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will hold a Chicago news conference Saturday, January 30th to ridicule Patrick Hughes’ latest request that other candidates withdraw in favor of Hughes. Martin will counter that Hughes has run a “disgraceful and dishonorable” campaign and should himself withdraw.
“From the first day Hughes announced, Patrick Hughes has been lying, dissembling, misrepresenting and exaggerating his resources to Illinois Republicans,” Martin will state. “Having offered Illinoisans and campaign contributors a pack of lies, it is Mr. Hughes himself who should withdraw.
“His campaign has now run out of cash without ever running any broadcast advertising.
“On August 20th when he announced as a candidate, Hughes said he had ‘commitments’ of $400,000. He never even raised a large fraction of that amount. At the gitgo, Hughes was lying. There were no ‘commitments.’
“Hughes spent six months exaggerating, and running a grossly incompetent campaign. Hughes had no money for broadcast advertising but found $10,000 in campaign cash for a personal chauffer:

“Hughes was the ‘imperial’ candidate, driving around the state with his chauffer while being unable to raise funds or rouse supporters.
“Hughes said Mike Ditka was on his Finance Committee. Ditka never served on any such committee. Hughes did manage to extort a lukewarm ‘endorsement’ out of Ditka after Ditka was embarrassed by his own confusion and malapropism.
“During the past few days, Hughes has cemented his status as one of the most dishonest candidates in Illinois political history. He falsely claimed that some Republican Party officials had endorsed him. They denied Hughes’ claim:

“Throughout Hughes six-month charade, so-called ‘pro-family’ poseurs have encouraged and endorsed Hughes after every embarrassment and disaster. But these so-called leaders never generated any significant financial support for Hughes.
“Hughes has been a world-class namedropper. He shamelessly drops the names of State House Republican leader Tom Cross and State Senator Kirk Dillard. He claimed that Richard Perle was his ‘adviser’ but Perle never appeared anywhere to confirm that fact. He claimed to have the endorsement of talk show hosts, but in one case that endorsement (Mark Levin) disappeared from the radio host’s web site. None of these people hosted a fundraiser or did anything commensurate with Hughes claims of ‘support and endorsement.’ The only person Hughes has not claimed an endorsement from Lady Gaga.
“Sadly, Hughes proved himself to be a complete chumbolone. Everyone took him to the cleaners. He hired a $10,000 ‘chauffer.’ He paid out tens of thousands of dollars in staff salaries. But he never aired a single broadcast ad. Instead, he ran a handful of cable TV advertisements as a face-saving gesture.
“Hughes promised Jack Roeser he would dump Paul Caprio, but failed to do so. Caprio collected another check from Hughes in the recent financial forms. Roeser’s own mascots, John Biver and Doug Ibendahl, have shamelessly promoted Hughes. For what?
“Illinois Review? The ‘Crossroads of the Chumbolone Community?’ The IR weenies have been in overdrive over Hughes.
“I am the only candidate who can stand up to Barack Obama. I am the only candidate who has stood up to the crooked Republican Party leadership in Illinois and exposed Mark Kirk as a military masquerader and worse.
“Unlike Hughes, who has been badgering his opponents to withdraw for months, with a conspicuous lack of success, I would never ask another candidate to withdraw.
“When this primary is over, the false prophets of the so-called pro-family movement need to do some deep soul-searching about their misguided role in the primary. They met in secret last summer to endorse Hughes, after cash changed hands. They took their Thirty Pieces of Silver and delivered their endorsements. Phyllis Schlafly did not even know she had endorsed Hughes, raising a cloud over her own mental competence to be a leader of Illinois voters from a residence in Missouri. I could go on, but you get the point.
“Hughes greased palms from Chicago to Washington, and it got him nothing but a lot of empty promises and hollow endorsements.
“We still have time to unify against Kirk, and to work on a united basis against the Democrats. If voters want to join me, I am prepared to lead,” Martin will state. “Hughes is no leader. He proved to be the Sad Sack of the so-called pro-family movement.”

As leaders of many of the pro-family groups in this state, we want to thank you for your willingness to put your personal life on hold in order to run for Senate. We know it is a sacrifice and we are grateful to you for that.
We have a common purpose. We all love our country and our state and are concerned about the moral and fiscal chaos we’ve seen at home and in the nation’s capitol. We are certain your motivation to get in this race was to change that.
But we ask you now to consider doing something difficult in the best interest of the state and the nation. Patrick Hughes is the only conservative candidate who has enough support to beat the very liberal and well-funded Mark Kirk. Even if we can unite conservative voters in the state, it will still be an uphill battle. But it is certain that Mark Kirk will prevail if all current candidates remain in the race.
We implore you to drop out of the race and throw your support behind Patrick Hughes as soon as possible. We are asking Kathleen Thomas, Judge Don Lowery and John Arrington to do the same. As it stands now, we will be doomed to yet another Democratic victory in the fall if we don’t have a strong conservative candidate to face them in November. Voters will stay home if Mark Kirk wins.
If you will do this, we as family leaders in the state will remember your demonstration of selflessness in this race in the future.

Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will throw down the gauntlet to Mark Kirk, Patrick Hughes and other Republican candidates at the Effingham County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner Thursday evening when he uses some of his allotted speaking time to say: “Tell Barack Obama to drop his efforts to repeal ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell.’”
“One of the disclosures that came out of the recent controversy about my advertising involving Mark Kirk’s private life was the unanimous declaration by homosexual activists and media that Mark Kirk was ‘their guy,’ Martin says. “Well, is Kirk the ‘guy’ of the gay lobby? Republican primary voters have a right to know. On the eve of the Illinois primary, Barry Obama has thrown down the gauntlet. I propose that we throw it right back at him. There is no need to change the ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy. The policy strikes an appropriate balance between the right to privacy and the right to military unit cohesion and decorum. The last thing we need to do in the middle of a war is invite the gay lobby to start filing discrimination lawsuits against our men and women in uniform. Recruitment will suffer. A lot of parents are not going to want to send their kids into a gay-orchestrated military environment.
“Likewise, Patrick Hughes has been afraid to tackle the controversy over gay rights. Well here is Hughes’ chance to tell his supporters where he stands.
“I challenge Kirk and every other Republican to tell Obama ‘No: do not repeal ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell.’’ I am sure the Associated Press reporter who covers Mark Kirk like a cheap blanket, Deanna Bellandi, can get the Kirkster on the phone. Let’s find out what the little critter has to say about his friend Obama’s latest ‘bomb.’ Let Kirk tell his admirers in the gay community he is against allowing gays to serve openly in the military.
“The issue is not homosexual rights. Homosexuals deserve the very same protection of the law as every other American. They are entitled to the same full protection of the law.
“Unlike Kirk, I do not have a military commission; but I do have an Honorable Discharge from the U. S. Air Force Reserves.
“But unlike Kirk, who fantasizes that he is the greatest ‘fighter’ since Genghis Khan, I have actually been in combat, in the jungle, and in many other precarious military situations. A war zone, a battlefield, a combat unit is no place for political correctness or sexual politics. Not even the kind of ‘fantasy’ war zones Kirk claims to be ‘fighting’ in.
“Obama is wrong. Conservative Republicans are right on this issue. Will Illinois Republicans stand up, despite the homosexual staff operating under State Chairman Pat Brady, with John McGovern acting as the Party’s de facto state executive director, and condemn repeal of ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell?’ I will pose that question Thursday evening in Effingham.
“Will Deanna Bellandi call Kirk to find out where he stands? Or is the Kirkster still in hiding? Republican primary voters want to know.”
“Of course, I have a ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ complaint pending against Kirk at the Navy Department. In a sense, Kirk has been boxed in by his own supporters and his own hypocrisy.”

Senate candidate Andy Martin will whistle-stop across eastern and central Illinois Thursday, January 28th campaigning in Chicago, Kankakee, Champaign, Mattoon and Effingham for his plan to build a “21st Century” high-speed passenger rail network. Martin will ridicule Barack Obama’s “19th Century” proposal to marginally increase train speeds. Martin says Obama’s timidity will never create jobs or stimulate the economy. (CHICAGO)(January 28, 2010) Republican U. S. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will hold a series of news conferences across eastern and central Illinois to slam Barack Obama for a “hy-speed” rail proposal that only marginally increases train speeds.
“Obama is proposing improvements to a 19th century system," Martin says. “We need a ‘Manhattan project’-style program to build a 21st century high-speed rail network in Illinois and parts of the Midwest.
“A 21st century high-speed rail plan would create hundreds of thousands of jobs. If we proceed on an emergency basis with a simultaneous ‘design and build’ approach, we can start building within months.
“What does high-quality high-speed rail cost in the long run? Zero. The added value to our economy, the added real estate values in communities along the high-speed rail network would pay for the system.
“Property in Kankakee would skyrocket if there was a high-speed train to the loop in thirty minutes. Champaign? One hour. People could commute from Champaign to Chicago. Mattoon and Effingham? One and a half hours. Carbondale? Two and a half hours. By comparison, Obama’s plan to spend billions on worthless improvements to a broken system would add little value to the economy. It’s typical Barry Obama: too little, too late, too timid. Thank God this guy is not Commander-in-Chief.
“High speed rail would tie this state and region together. People could live in their homes and commute to central cities. Our children would no longer have to move to the coasts to find excitement and economic opportunity.
“America’s private enterprise built the ‘war machine’ that saved the world in World War II. Private enterprise can save America in 2010 if we will only have the courage to think big thoughts and invest in our economic future,” Martin says. “This is not a Republican thing or a Democratic thing. This is an American thing.” Martin holds an Economics degree from the University of Illinois.
Martin says all of his opponents in both parties lack the vision and courage to propose major infrastructure investments.
Martin will also slam Mark Kirk and Patrick Hughes as political pretenders who are lying to the people of Illinois.

(CHICAGO)(January 28, 2010) Republican U. S. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will hold a series of news conferences across eastern and central Illinois to slam Barack Obama for a “hy-speed” rail proposal that only marginally increases train speeds.
“Obama is proposing improvements to a 19th century system," Martin says. “We need a ‘Manhattan project’-style program to build a 21st century high-speed rail network in Illinois and parts of the Midwest.
“A 21st century high-speed rail plan would create hundreds of thousands of jobs. If we proceed on an emergency basis with a simultaneous ‘design and build’ approach, we can start building within months.
“What does high-quality high-speed rail cost in the long run? Zero. The added value to our economy, the added real estate values in communities along the high-speed rail network would pay for the system.
“Property in Kankakee would skyrocket if there was a high-speed train to the loop in thirty minutes. Champaign? One hour. People could commute from Champaign to Chicago. Mattoon and Effingham? One and a half hours. Carbondale? Two and a half hours. By comparison, Obama’s plan to spend billions on worthless improvements to a broken system would add little value to the economy. It’s typical Barry Obama: too little, too late, too timid. Thank God this guy is not Commander-in-Chief.
“High speed rail would tie this state and region together. People could live in their homes and commute to central cities. Our children would no longer have to move to the coasts to find excitement and economic opportunity.
“America’s private enterprise built the ‘war machine’ that saved the world in World War II. Private enterprise can save America in 2010 if we will only have the courage to think big thoughts and invest in our economic future,” Martin says. “This is not a Republican thing or a Democratic thing. This is an American thing.” Martin holds an Economics degree from the University of Illinois.
Martin says all of his opponents in both parties lack the vision and courage to propose major infrastructure investments.
Martin will also slam Mark Kirk and Patrick Hughes as political pretenders who are lying to the people of Illinois.
Martin will attend the Effingham County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner Thursday evening at the Effingham Knights of Columbus Hall.

“Channel 5 has become a virtual campaign headquarters for Kirk. They even show pictures of an unidentified woman in red with Kirk, the same type of woman in red I used to see on Mark Foley’s arm. It’s a scam, and the media are perpetrating the scam in conjunction with Kirk, John McGovern and the other Beltway hypocrites.
“Republican primary voters have one week to come their senses. A vote for one of my opponents is a vote for Kirk. A vote for Kirk is a vote to turn the Republican Party over to control of John McGovern and his homosexual operators. It’s that plain. Senate candidate and insurgent "Internet Powerhouse" Andy Martin will hold a Rockford news conference today Tuesday, January 19th to hammer away at the need for a new high-speed rail system connecting Rockford to Chicago. Martin will then speak to a meeting of Winnebago County Republicans.
"Republicans are desperate for an alternative to the effete Mr. Kirk. Kirk has never appeared at a single public function since becoming a candidate for senator, and always insists on controlled-access locations. I have become the 'Kirk Killer.'
"The media are pro-Kirk, and anti-Martin, but like moths drawn to a candle, they keep attacking me and focusing on my campaign. Why? I have stripped the bark off Kirk's bogus military accomplishments as well as other unsavory aspects of his life in Congress. Nuff said. Kirk remains in seclusion.
"Tonight, on a positive note, I will renew my pledge and promise Winnebago Republicans to replicate my effort which led to the construction of Interstate 39, by building a new high-speed rail link for Rockford, and by also upgrading the Rockford Airport. I am the only candidate for U. S. Senator who is a 'builder' with a proven record of delivering for Winnebago County. If you don't believe me, come to Rockford and see Interstate Highway 39 that I brought into existence," Martin says.
MARTIN will issue a reaction comment later Tuesday to the latest embarrassments of the Hughes campaign. “Hughes may be collapsing,” Martin says, “But we are there to offer his supporters a conservative refuge. We are Illinois Tough. Hughes wasn’t. He would not even discuss or debate conservative social issues. Good riddance to Mr. Hughes.” Watch for Andy’s remarks Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning.

Senate candidate and insurgent "Internet Powerhouse" Andy Martin will hold a Rockford news conference today Tuesday, January 19th to hammer away at the need for a new high-speed rail system connecting Rockford to Chicago. Martin will then speak to a meeting of Winnebago County Republicans.
"Republicans are desperate for an alternative to the effete Mr. Kirk. Kirk has never appeared at a single public function since becoming a candidate for senator, and always insists on controlled-access locations. I have become the 'Kirk Killer.'
"The media are pro-Kirk, and anti-Martin, but like moths drawn to a candle, they keep attacking me and focusing on my campaign. Why? I have stripped the bark off Kirk's bogus military accomplishments as well as other unsavory aspects of his life in Congress. Nuff said. Kirk remains in seclusion.
"Tonight, on a positive note, I will renew my pledge and promise Winnebago Republicans to replicate my effort which led to the construction of Interstate 39, by building a new high-speed rail link for Rockford, and by also upgrading the Rockford Airport. I am the only candidate for U. S. Senator who is a 'builder' with a proven record of delivering for Winnebago County. If you don't believe me, come to Rockford and see Interstate Highway 39 that I brought into existence," Martin says.
MARTIN will issue a reaction comment later Tuesday to the latest embarrassments of the Hughes campaign. “Hughes may be collapsing,” Martin says, “But we are there to offer his supporters a conservative refuge. Friday evening Martin delivered stirring patriotic remarks at the Winnebago County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner.
“The program did not call for speeches,” Martin says. “I was caught completely by surprise when I was asked to be the first speaker at the Lincoln Day Dinner. And so I spoke from the heart. I spoke of ‘following our flag’ around the world, of my memories of brave young men and women in uniform who stand guard for us.
“I spoke of seeing our flag when I lived in Iraq (2003), and when I was in Asia (1967-1971), and Southwest Asia (1979-80). I spoke of my enduring love for the proud young Americans whose lives are engraved on my memory.
“Unlike Mark Kirk, who is a military imposter with an imaginary record of ‘fighting’ in wars where he was never in harm’s way, I have never been on active military duty. But I have been in combat. I have seen men die. Unlike Mr. Kirk, who was never at risk, except in his own vivid imagination, I have dodged bullets, mortars, rockets and more.
“But I have never confused my efforts to get at the truth or to serve my country with the work being done by the American men and women who were doing the fighting. The ones who ‘humped’ the weapons across rice paddies and deserts. The ones who did the real fighting. I am no hero. But I know who our real heroes are. And Mark Kirk is not one of them,” Martin says.
“Mark Kirk ‘dodged fire’ the same way Hillary Clinton ‘came under fire’ in Bosnia. Mark Kirk is as much of a ‘fighter’ as Clinton.
“I have challenged Kirk to release all of his military records since becoming a congressman. He has refused to do so. I have offered media a FOIA release for any of the government’s files on me, some of which may not yet have been declassified. I have no secrets to hide. Kirk does.”
“Mark Kirk does hold a reserve commission. But he uses that commission as a political prop, not as part of genuine service to our nation. Let’s see your military records, Mark. I have opened my files. Why won’t you open yours? What are you hiding?”
While Martin is holding a Bunker Buster news conference on Patrick Hughes, Martin’s “Bunker Buster” advertising challenging Kirk’s misleading and exaggerated military claims also begins airing statewide on the 18th. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will hold a Chicago news conference Monday, January 18th to claim that Patrick Hughes is a “closeted Mr. Mom who masquerades as a ‘home builder’ and ‘developer’ but is really a stay-at-home dad who lives off the earnings of his wife.”
Martin charges that the Chicago Tribune is concealing embarrassing news about Hughes because Hughes’ wife is a partner in the law firm which represents the tribune.
Martin says that his disclosure in a Channel 7 televised debate Thursday that Hughes’ contributors were withdrawing support has caused a cascade of withdrawals of support and collapse of the Hughes campaign.
Martin says Hughes is increasingly making a “laughingstock” of the “conservatives” who supported him. “They bought a pig in a poke,” Andy says. “Paul Caprio has pulled off the biggest political scam in history, and made conservatives look like jerks. Jack Roeser has been taken to the cleaners by John Biver and Doug Ibendahl. Heads will roll.
“Pat Hughes claims in campaign forums and claimed on WLS-TV’s televised debate that he is a ‘home builder’ and ‘developer.’ My campaign has done a diligent search of records. We cannot find any ‘homes’ that Hughes is ‘building.’ We cannot find any land that Hughes is ‘developing.’ All we can find based on our investigative methods is that Hughes is a stay-at-home dad who is supported by the earnings of his wife.
“Now there is nothing wrong with being a Mr. Mom. And if Hughes was honest about his lack of employment, and stopped lying abut ‘home building’ and ‘developments,’ I would be the first to congratulate him as Mr. Mom. But just as I have exposed Mark Kirk’s hypocrisy, I now expose Pat Hughes hypocrisy as well. Both are hollow men with paper maché public lives.
“I challenge Mr. Hughes to disclose the locations of any ‘homes’ he is ‘building.’ I challenge him to disclose the locations of his current ‘developments.’ I challenge Mr. Hughes’ ‘conservative’ backers to demand the same evidence. I challenge the media to do likewise. The only development Hughes has been identified with is the Ocean Atlantic fiasco that has defaulted on its performance bonds.

Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will hold a Chicago news conference Monday, January 18th to claim that Patrick Hughes is a “closeted Mr. Mom who masquerades as a ‘home builder’ and ‘developer’ but is really a stay-at-home dad who lives off the earnings of his wife.”
Martin charges that the Chicago Tribune is concealing embarrassing news about Hughes because Hughes’ wife is a partner in the law firm which represents the tribune.
Martin says that his disclosure in a Channel 7 televised debate Thursday that Hughes’ contributors were withdrawing support has caused a cascade of withdrawals of support and collapse of the Hughes campaign.
Martin says Hughes is increasingly making a “laughingstock” of the “conservatives” who supported him. “They bought a pig in a poke,” Andy says. “Paul Caprio has pulled off the biggest political scam in history, and made conservatives look like jerks. Jack Roeser has been taken to the cleaners by John Biver and Doug Ibendahl. Heads will roll.
“Pat Hughes claims in campaign forums and claimed on WLS-TV’s televised debate that he is a ‘home builder’ and ‘developer.’ My campaign has done a diligent search of records. We cannot find any ‘homes’ that Hughes is ‘building.’ We cannot find any land that Hughes is ‘developing.’ All we can find based on our investigative methods is that Hughes is a stay-at-home dad who is supported by the earnings of his wife.
“Now there is nothing wrong with being a Mr. Mom. And if Hughes was honest about his lack of employment, and stopped lying abut ‘home building’ and ‘developments,’ I would be the first to congratulate him as Mr. Mom. But just as I have exposed Mark Kirk’s hypocrisy, I now expose Pat Hughes hypocrisy as well. Both are hollow men with paper maché public lives.
“I challenge Mr. Hughes to disclose the locations of any ‘homes’ he is ‘building.’ I challenge him to disclose the locations of his current ‘developments.’ I challenge Mr. Hughes’ ‘conservative’ backers to demand the same evidence. I challenge the media to do likewise. The only development Hughes has been identified with is the Ocean Atlantic fiasco that has defaulted on its performance bonds.
“Hughes’ initial claim to be a developer rested on two separate operations. Both appear to be defunct or nearly bankrupt at this time. (CHICAGO)(December 31, 2009) Republican U. S. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will hold a Chicago news conference Thursday, December 31st to accuse another senate candidate of corrupting and undermining the “Tea Party” movement in Illinois.
“It didn’t take long for Illinois politicians to corrupt so-called ‘Tea Party’ leaders,” Martin charges. “Patrick Hughes and others have merely moved their ‘pay-to-play’ gimmicks into the unsophisticated arena of ‘Tea Party” committees. It appears to me that there are wholesale violations of federal election laws being committed by Hughes and his coconspirators. Of course, in Illinois politics breaking the law is routine.
“A Mark Kirk supporter has offered a devastating indictment of Hughes and his supporters as ‘idiotic’ and ‘crazy:’

That’s not the half of it.
“The Will County/Joliet/Homer Tea Party movement is spending thousands of dollars to oppose federal candidates without adequate compliance with federal election law. Hughes was caught red-handed in election law violations in November. He is a habitual offender.
“Hughes’ supporters are falsely claiming they are conducting a 'Stop Mark Kirk Rally.’ Is fraud any more acceptable when it is conducted by self-styled amateurs? No one seriously suggests that Hughes can even stop at a stop sign, let alone stop Kirk. The entire event he is promoting is a complete scam. We are considering whether to deploy pickets to warn people of Hughes' machinations. This is the same Hughes who falsely claimed Mike Ditka was serving on his 'Finance Committee,' and who said he had hundreds of thousands of dollars of ‘commitments’ that soon disappeared.
“Now the sponsors of the ‘country club’ event are trying to rope Fox News into covering this illegal assembly.
“The back story is interesting. When I attended a forum of this group in December, other candidates told me Hughes had ‘bought the support of these people,’ and that the questions being asked in the supposedly impartial forum were nothing more than sham questions previously orchestrated by Hughes. That turned out to be the case. In other words, the Tea Party promoters were conducting a completely fraudulent and fixed-in-advance event. That is no way to develop and encourage public integrity.
“The Tea Party movement was supposed to encourage independent citizen participation, and not fall under the domination or control of particular candidates. In Illinois, the opposite has happened. Hughes has claimed ‘endorsements’ from mysterious ‘Tea Party’ groups whose existence is impossible to verify. They apparently meet in secret.
“Hughes is not the only offender. A Kane County group mysteriously appeared out of nowhere. I attended a Tea Party event in Kane County, and a handful of people were there. Now they mysteriously claim ‘300 precinct committeemen,’ which is a suspiciously large number, are active. Again, this Tea Party operation met in secret and without any public notice. An attempt to Google the group produced nothing.
“On and on it goes. The following are obvious.
“First, the Tea Parties are apparently used to collect names and e-mail addresses, and this information is then bartered by small control groups for their own political benefit. Second, in my opinion, a group that is spending thousands of dollars to oppose Kirk has to file detailed reports with the federal government.
“Third the national Tea Party movement has been accused of collecting money that is then largely directed to fund raising operators. In other words, the movement has become identical to many similar suspicious charities that have been shut down by state authorities for acting as virtual conduits of professional fund raising operators.
“I obviously can’t speak to what I happening in other states. But in Illinois the Tea Party movement has fallen under the control of small groups of insiders that are vulnerable to special influence pressures and self-interested decision-making.
“One of the things I am very fastidious about in my campaign is transparency. We do nothing anonymously. Everything has my name on it or it does not go out the door. We do not do deals in secret or in private. We do not engage in pay-to-play. My campaign is a genuine grass roots citizens' movement with volunteer supporters across the state. We don’t pay for endorsements. Obviously, my standards are much higher than Hughes or the sleazy ‘consultants’ who have guided his campaign into the ditch.
"The good news is that even though Hughes has corrupted Tea Parties and corrupted the campaign process, his campaign has died on the vine. The Republican senate primary has become a two-man race between me and Mark Kirk. Hughes’ dirty tricks and hundreds of thousands of dollars of personal spending produced nothing but embarrassment, corruption and ineffective results.
“Senator Jim DeMint has encouraged this coarsening and corruption of Tea Parties in Illinois by encouraging Hughes to buy and bribe his way to political support. DeMint has not helped conservatives in Illinois. The DeMint model is a failure in our state. Not only is Hughes not ‘going anywhere,’ his campaign activity is going backwards.
“We are offering a second ‘welcome period’ to Hughes supporters to join the most dynamic conservative making in the entire United States: Andy Martin for U. S. Senator,” Martin says.

(CHICAGO)(December 12, 2009) Almost every election cycle brings out “Walter Mitty” candidates. These individuals have no political experience and no familiarity with the public arena, yet they delude themselves into believing they are capable of performing as national officials. Today we begin an occasional series on candidates with Walter Mitty aspects to them.
Does anyone remember Steve Sauerberg? Sauerberg appeared out of nowhere in 2007 and said he could defeat incumbent Democrat Dick Durbin. Sauerberg said he would be “adequately funded,” but wasn’t. Sauerberg has vanished.
2010’s Walter Mitty candidate is Patrick Hughes. Hughes provides many dimensions of delusional behavior. We will start be addressing his nonexistent voting record and nonexistent Republican Party credentials.
At some Republican Party functions I compare and contrast Hughes with Mark Kirk. Kirk is “Magic Slate,” employing a term from the children’s “slate” that can be erased merely by lifting the plastic cover. Kirk would have us believe he can “erase” his ultra-liberal voting record in Congress by simply lifting the plastic cover on his life. Obviously, Kirk can’t erase his past, or his present, and the past and present will doom Kirk’s
future.
In comparison to Kirk, I call Patrick Hughes “blank slate.” If you “Google” Mr. Hughes prior to 2009, there is nothing there. Hughes’ adult life is a blank slate. Hughes own self-promoted Wikipedia entry has nothing of a public nature prior to 2009.

Hughes voted as a Republican for the first time in 2008. In other words, a few months after declaring himself to be a Republican, he decided he had the experience to become a national leader. In Parts Two and Three of Hughes’ imaginary qualifications we will discuss other defects in his resume.
Today we focus on Hughes’ lack of a voting record.
Ironically, we can begin debunking Hughes by simply quoting one of his biggest supporters, John Biver of “Champion” News. A few days ago Biver wrote:
“Experience in the arena does matter. Rarely is a young man made a general—there is much to learn as a person moves up through the ranks.”
Having written those wise words, Mr. Biver chose to ignore them by supporting Hughes, and then failing to advise Hughes how to become a “real” candidate.
Hughes has said he was “too busy” to vote over the decades. Too busy to vote for decades? How much time does it take to vote? If Hughes did not become a Republican until almost the age of forty, what did he consider himself before he declared himself a Republican? Taking after the movie of a similar title, I have come to refer to Hughes as the “Forty Year-Old Virgin.” It took Mr. Hughes almost forty years to decide he was a Republican. It took him only a few months to declare himself a national leader. John Biver, where were you when Mr. Hughes’ needed your restraining influence?
Hughes has occasionally claimed that he actually did voted a few times and that these votes are spread across Cook and DuPage Counties. That’s not an excuse, but it is what lawyers would call a “plea in mitigation.”
How would I have proceeded to address Hughes’ problem? If, indeed, I had a series of votes that were not visible, and which were becoming risible, I would obtain certified copies of my voting records and post them on my web site. Mr. Hughes also claims to be a “lawyer.” Hughes may be a licensed paralegal, but he lacks the skills of an experienced attorney. An experienced lawyer would have promptly proceeded as I suggest: get copies of the certified records and make them public.
Hughes has never made any voting records public, even though the burden of removing this serious cloud on his candidacy rests at all times on him, and on no one else. Lawyers also have a “failure to produce” doctrine, with which Mr. Hughes may have a passing acquaintanceship. The “failure to produce” rule says that if you have information in your control and you fail to produce it, a judge and jury may draw an “adverse inference” from your failure to produce the evidence. The doctrine is also called the adverse inference rule.
So now that we have been appropriately instructed, we may proceed to draw the adverse inference that Hughes in reality has no documents to rebut his lack of a voting record. Hughes has been lying.
Hughes brags about having many “paid staffers” on his payroll. Doesn’t one of his employees have enough political experience and street smarts to realize that the lack of a voting record undermines Hughes’ candidacy? Or is the apparent truth in fact the real truth: Hughes really has no records to document his earlier votes because they never took place.
Patrick Hughes? United States Senator? Walter Mitty would be proud of him.

Francis Cardinal George of Chicago faces challenge over Holy Communion for Senator Dick Durbin
U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin promised a Tea Party audience Wednesday that he would issue a timetable Thursday for protesting against Holy Communion for Senator Durbin in light of Durbin’s extreme pro-abortion record. “The Pope recently invited members of my church to join the Roman Catholic Church,” Martin says. “I want to know where Cardinal George stands on communion for political heretics on abortion.” Martin received a standing ovation from the Tea Party attendees as he promised to confront George over Durbin’s right to receive communion in light of the denial of HC to Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy.

Senate candidate Andy Martin brought a Joliet Tea Party event to its feet Wednesday evening with Martin’s promise to confront Chicago’s Roman Catholic Archbishop Cardinal George over the issue of limiting Holy Communion for U. S. Senator Dick Durbin. Martin will issue a timetable today, Thursday, for confronting Cardinal George.
Martin also received a rousing response when he slashed at another of his opponents, Mark Kirk, because Kirk is conducting a “poll” of whether U. S. Navy Seals should be prosecuted for taking an Iraqi/Al-Qaeda terrorist into custody.
At least two (2) U. S. Senate candidates at the event clashed with Patrick Hughes over Hughes’ receipt of secret “endorsements.”
Martin also dropped two “bombshell” announcements on the Tea Party event. He promised to start a Senate advertising campaign on December 28th that will “turn this state upside down.” And Martin announced that his “Obama birth certificate conference” in New York December 18-19th may receive some national TV network coverage.
“I told the group that if Patrick Kennedy was being discouraged from receiving communion,” Martin said. “the ‘big enchilada’ of pro-abortion legislators, Dick Durbin, should receive equal treatment. To say the crowd responded enthusiastically would be an understatement.

Dear Senator DeMint:
On October 16th I sent you a letter outlining the respective qualifications of Patrick Hughes and myself. A week later you issued an incomplete and misleading newsletter (November 21, 2009) claiming no one but Hughes had asked for your support.
One of the problems with Beltway “conservatives” is that they act very “liberal” with the truth. If you are going to try to rig an endorsement, please don’t try to mislead your nationwide supporters with half-truths and incomplete information.
First, since you have not responded to my letter, you are apparently not meeting with other candidates. How can you make an informed, intelligent decision without knowing all of the options?
Second, in your “newsletter” you state Hughes’ “issues” as though the man has discovered something. All of the Republican Party primary candidates with the exception of Mark Kirk support the same issues (actually, even Kirk belatedly claims to support them). Hughes’ “issues” are nothing more than a list of talking points that he recites as a parrot. If everyone supports the same issues, “issues” are not a basis to highlight one candidate over another.
Mr. Hughes has a serious problem with the truth. He lied about his support by Mike Ditka, he lied about his financial “commitments,” he lied about his record as an attorney and he has sought to proceed by surreptitiously filing challenges against other candidates. Mr. Kirk is a liar. But why would you back another liar to oppose him? Why not back the truth?
Hughes claims to be a “real estate developer.” The only major project identified with him never put a shovel in the ground and triggered litigation. He claimed to act as a “general counsel” for a de facto bankrupt real estate firm at a time when he had voluntarily suspended his law license. Are these the kinds of fraudulent acts and issues you want to endorse in a primary?
Hughes may have remodeled a few kitchens and baths, and sold “fixer-uppers” at a profit. That does not make him a “real estate developer.” Have you actually reviewed and evaluated a project list of Hughes’ developments? Of course not. That list doesn’t exist.
Mr. Hughes never voted in a Republican primary before 2008. He has issued responses that argue he has voted copiously, but no one has ever seen any backup for his claims. Have you? If he can’t document his voting record for local Republicans, why would you support him?
Hughes is a forty year-old man with a blank slate when it comes to public involvement. He claims that earlier this year he had a vision he should be a senator, paid a few thousand dollars to set up an anti-tax committee, and overnight became a national figure. I don’t think so. Most candidates who have no public and no political experience turn out to be disasters. There may be exceptions to the rule, but the rule is that “no public experience, no political experience,” equals no experience for statewide office. Hughes is no exception.
Oh, I forgot to mention: Hughes has issued bogus polls. He wins his own polls, naturally. But Hughes leaves my name out of his polls. I wonder why? Maybe because both Kirk and Hughes are afraid to list my name in their polls. I beat both of them. Is your PAC staff so gullible that they believe bogus polls?
The Illinois primary is the first election of the 2010 cycle. If you back a loser in that race your “brand” is going to be both tarnished and embarrassed. Don’t get too full of yourself.
Have you asked Hughes if he has a media plan? (My own campaign announced last Saturday that this week we are beginning media production.)
I have over forty years of political experience, so please allow me to give you some advice. Hughes is a loser. He is being promoted by someone (D. Paul Caprio) who uses politics to plunder the process for his own financial gain. So be careful. I assume Hughes got to you through Tom Coburn, who in turn is linked to Caprio. Coburn needs to have his head examined for hanging around a sleaze ball like Caprio.
Ironically, one of Hughes major supporters, Jack Roeser, made it a condition of his support that Caprio be removed from the Hughes campaign. Caprio still slithers around, but he has no official role in deference to Roeser’s demand. Call and ask Jack Roeser what he thinks of Caprio & Co. It might be an eye-opener.
ABC Channel 7 is scheduling a candidates’ debate. I suggest you hold up support for any candidate until you see them perform on the Channel 7 debate early in January. If after seeing him go up against Kirk and me, you still like Hughes, be my guest. Have at it and support him. My guess is you will not be happy with Hughes’ performance and will be glad you took my advice.
The American people are enraged and outraged that Barack Obama sits in the White House. I am the only candidate with a record of standing up to Obama. People want someone in office they can trust to fight the Obama agenda. With no experience and no record of standing up for anything but his own self-interest, only a fool would take Pat Hughes seriously. What does that say about your staff?
I don’t like Mark Kirk’s record and believe he can and should be defeated. But you are backing a dead horse if you are trying to send a rookie like Hughes up against pros like Kirk or me. Be real.

Hughes admits he is “Candidate X” and transfers Martin’s “Solo” lawsuit from state court to federal court
(CHICAGO)(November 9, 2009) Republican U. S. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin announced today that his primary opponent Pat Hughes has transferred the “Solo Family” lawsuit, originally filed in the Circuit Court of DuPage County, to federal court.
“Mr. Hughes is taking my lawsuit very seriously,” Martin noted. “He made a ‘federal case’ out of my claims that ‘Candidate X’ was breaking the law. Hughes has admitted he is ‘Candidate X.’ Amusingly, Hughes moved the lawsuit to federal court even before the sheriff could serve the Solo Family defendants. Both Solos admitted they are Hughes operatives.
“Hughes has established a pattern of deceptive and manipulative behavior. Last summer he paid D. Paul Caprio to recruit ‘pro-family leaders’ to his campaign. Caprio did not disclose he was acting as a paid agent of the Hughes campaign.
“Hughes then sent ‘consultant’ Jon Zahm out to attack me when I filed a meritorious complaint against Hughes because of his fraudulent behavior as an attorney. Zahm appeared to be acting as a paid spokesman for Hughes, though Zahm now denies that claim. Hughes was forced to admit I was legally correct. He had to pay his dues as an ‘active’ attorney or face professional discipline.
“Then Hughes falsely claimed that Mike Ditka had both ‘endorsed’ Hughes and agreed to serve on his ‘Finance Committee.’ Ditka denied both claims, although he later issued a lukewarm ‘endorsement’ of Hughes. Ditka has kept his distance from Hughes since ‘endorsing’ him. Some endorsement. Ditka flatly refused to serve on Hughes Finance Committee.
“Then Hughes demanded that the two African-American candidates withdraw from the Republican Party senate primary. Hughes claimed he had a secret deal with Arrington and Wallace for them to withdraw. Both men denied Hughes’ claim.
“Hughes then tried to use a straw man to order petitions from the State Board of Elections. When I offered Hughes the option of admitting he was ‘Candidate X’ and avoiding a lawsuit, Hughes chose to be sued. Now that he has been sued, he has been forced to make an admission that he was indeed ‘Candidate X.’ We will be deposing his ‘workers’ to find out how they paid for the petition copies.
“In addition to manifesting a continuously deceptive personality, Hughes also manifests gross incompetence as a lawyer. He was unlawfully holding himself out as a ‘General Counsel’ at a time when he had suspended his law license and gone on ‘inactive’ status. That was a serious legal violation.
“Hughes now claims he has a right to ‘copy petitions.’ I agree he has that right. What Hughes does not have a right to do is launder money to pay for petitions in a way that disguises his payment for the petitions. If Hughes can’t even comprehend the basic ethical requirements of an attorney or federal candidate, how is he going to deal with the complexity of being a U. S. Senator?” Martin asks.
“Obviously, Hughes is out of his depth, and drowning. But then Hughes was unable to cope with the complexities of voting either, until he decided to become a candidate for U. S. Senator. He voted for the first time as a Republican in 2008. What took him so long? He’s 40 years old.”

Andy Martin rips Mark Kirk in Skokie forum of city/suburban Republicans
Martin ridicules Kirk’s current campaign, and points out that Kirk claims he was “forced by his district” to vote for cap and trade. “Well, you are his district (Evanston Township). Did you force Kirk to vote for cap and trade? Did you force Kirk vote for gay rights? Did you force Kirk to vote for gun control?” Republicans cheered Martin’s litany of Kirk’s inconsistencies. “We need a Republican candidate for United States Senator, not a Democrat,” Martin said. Martin plans to escalate his attacks on Kirk as the campaign continues. Martin’ speech Sunday was based on the following letter:

Dear Republican:
Thank you for inviting me to your endorsement meeting. I would urge you not to endorse any candidate today. The campaign really began on November 9th when the ballot was finally determined. Now the real campaigning begins. Watch the candidates in November and December; consider holding an endorsement meeting in January, when you have a basis to decide whom to support.
Illinois voters are concerned with corruption. Only one candidate has a consistent, clear record of fighting corruption in our state. I do. The other Republicans have no record at all.
Illinois voters are concerned with our foreign policy challenges. Mark Kirk has a record of being consistently wrong on international issues and lacking any real experience. Patrick Hughes on foreign policy? Don’t ask. It’s embarrassing.
Well, what about Kirk and Hughes?
Mark Kirk is the “Magic Slate” candidate. As children most of us played with a toy called “magic slate.” You can write on a slate, and then lift up the plastic screen and erase what you have just written. Kirk is trying to run as a “conservative.” Kirk wants you to forget and “erase” his vote for cap and trade. Kirk says his district “forced” him to vote for cap and trade.
Kirk wants you to forget his support for gay rights “hate crime” legislation. Did the “gays” force Kirk to take the lead on hate crimes the same way he was forced to support cap and trade? Kirk supports gun control. Who “forced” him to support gun control? On and on it goes. According to Kirk, someone “forced” him to vote liberal for the last ten years. Maybe Kirk should start by telling us who that “someone” is. Kirk is a de facto Democrat.
Kirk calls himself a “fiscal conservative.” Yet he voted for skyrocketing deficits during the Bush years. He voted for the biggest tax increase in history: Barack Obama’s cap and trade boondoggle. Fiscal conservative?
Patrick Hughes? He voted Republican for the first time last year. He has no public record. This year Hughes paid a promoter to set up a state “anti-tax” committee for him. Now Hughes claims he is national material. Hughes’ candidacy is a joke. He claimed to be a brilliant attorney, until we disclosed he had registered as an “inactive” lawyer. He had to go back and revive his legal registration and pay his fees. Hughes said he has $400,000 in “commitments,” but only $130,000 of that showed up in cash. Hughes is now claiming he has $1 million “in the mail.”
If Kirk is the Magic Slate candidate, seeking to erase his entire voting record in Congress and pretending he is a conservative for the next 80 days, Hughes is the man without an engine under the hood. There’s nothing there. Not liberal, not conservative, nothing.
Fighting corruption is not easy. I have the scars to prove it. Jesus himself reminds us that prophets are often without honor. He knew what he was talking about. But I do have the very real privilege of offering you a forty-year record of honorable service to the people of Illinois. Go to our web site and see for yourself. I would like you to watch how the campaign unfolds and how the candidates react to the competing campaigns. Watch us debate on Channel 7. Then and only then can you make an informed decision on whom to support. Don’t be stampeded into an early endorsement that can embarrass you later.
And, if you have any questions about me, just pick up the phone. I am the only statewide candidate in either party you can actually get on the phone. I will serve you the same way as a United States Senator in Washington: one-on-one, helping solve one problem at a time. Unlike Mark Kirk I don’t have to repudiate my prior record to run as a Republican.
Forty years ago the FBI called me a “leading spokesman for conservatives.” That’s a consistent record you can be proud of. I don’t have to change who I am or what I am to be your candidate. Kirk? Hughes? Be serious.

I will serve you the same way as a United States Senator in Washington: one-on-one, helping solve one problem at a time. Unlike Mark Kirk I don’t have to repudiate my prior record to run as a Republican.
Forty years ago the FBI called me a “leading spokesman for conservatives.” That’s a consistent record you can be proud of. I don’t have to change who I am or what I am to be your candidate. Kirk? Hughes? Be serious.

(WHEATON, IL)(November 11, 2009) Republican U. S. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin learned today that Patrick Hughes claims he will report $1 million in campaign cash in his January report. Is Hughes another phony like Steve Sauerberg?
Those with a memory extending further back than Patrick Hughes’ first vote as a Republican in 2008 will remember Steve Sauerberg’s “million dollar loans” to his campaign. Trouble is, Sauerberg lent money to his campaign, but never spent most of it.
Is Hughes following Sauerberg’s script by making imaginary loans to himself? Hughes already claims he has “lent” himself $250,000. I hope he got some collateral, and didn’t make a “sub-prime” loan to the Hughes campaign.
Has anyone seen any Hughes spending lately? Advertising? Where’s the beef? Still sitting in Hughes own bank account.
Hughes couldn’t even organize his petitions properly. Still sitting on all his cash.
So why is Champion News spreading Hughes propaganda? John Biver told a Southern Illinois talk show host that Hughes claims he will have “raised $1 million” by his January reports. When asked if the money was real, Biver replied, “We don’t know. That’s what we’ve been told.”
Been told? By whom? By a candidate who has a history of imaginary financial “commitments?”
Let’s be clear. Champion News does an outstanding job of fighting for reform in the Illinois Republican Party. I unhesitatingly salute them.
But Champion News’ record of support for Pat Hughes is an embarrassment. Maybe even a disgrace.
Biver has threatened to expose candidates who oppose Hughes. I’m still waiting. Doug Ibendahl also promised an expose of Andy Martin. Expose away, Doug. There are no secrets about me. It’s all on the Internet. Barack Obama put it there first, because Obama is terrified I am going to defeat Kirk and run against the Obama regime beginning on February 3, 2010. Obama's smear attacks on me boomeranged. So will yours.
So, please Champion News, don’t keep us in suspense: tell us who told you that Hughes is promising a million dollars in campaign cash come January. (Is Pat Hughes hoping Santa Claus will show up with a bag of cash? Is Jack Roeser coming down Hughes’ chimney?)

For starters, Hughes can start spending money paying lawyers to defend his unlawful behavior in filing petition challenges to the two candidates that filed after him and made a joke of Hughes’ claim he would "file last.”

Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin will hold a Chicago news conference Wednesday, November 11th to demand that so-called “Christian leaders” withdraw their “endorsement” of Patrick Hughes and demand that he withdraw his petition challenges against other candidates.
“Pat Hughes voted in a Republican primary for the first time in 2008,” Martin says. “The following year, 2009, he is trying to throw Republicans off the ballot.
“And what is most disturbing is that so-called ‘family’ and ‘Christian’ leaders are sitting silently by as Hughes makes racist attacks and plays dirty tricks with petition attacks.
“If Jesus condemns anything in the temple, he condemns hypocrisy. Yet these so-called leaders are world-class hypocrites. They are backing a candidate who is a disgrace to honesty, integrity and fair play, and standing by silently while lending their official support to Hughes’ machinations. Well?
“As the Roman Catholic Saint Thomas More is reputed to have said in confronting similar hypocrisy, ‘Silence is consent.’
“I for one think there is a role for religious values in politics. But I believe religious values should be a reason to elevate, not depreciate, the political process. Patrick Hughes and his ‘family’ supporters’ have demolished respect for the Christian movement.
“They met in secret and endorsed Hughes, who was being promoted by Paul Caprio while Caprio was on Hughes’ payroll. They then sat by silently as Hughes launched attacks on African-American candidates and forced one of them out of the race. Racism, hypocrisy, dirty tricks in the petition process, what a wonderful candidate these so-called ‘leaders’ are supporting.
“I call on these individuals to withdraw their endorsement of Hughes, and to admit they made a mistake. I also call on these individuals, including Dave Smith of IFA, Sandy Rios, Mary Anne Hackett, Robert Vanden Bosch, Bonnie Quirke, John Parrott and Phyllis Schlafly, among others, to expressly condemn Hughes’ petition challenges against other candidates who filed for the same office.
“It is very clear that if these individuals remain silent, their silence gives consent and ‘endorsement’ to dirty tricks and vitiates any role these persons have to play going forward,” Martin will state.
