Ditka’s Restaurant in Chicago faces picketing and boycott starting Thursday, October 15th

U.S. Senate candidate Andy Martin says Mike Ditka’s “endorsement” of a Ku Klux Klan-style Republican candidate for U. S. Senator is unacceptable for a business in a strong NFL city such as Chicago. Martin will release his picketing schedule and further action on Thursday. Martin is boycotting and picketing because of Ditka’s alleged endorsement of one of Martin’s opponents.

Andy Martin announces boycott/picketing of Ditka’s Restaurants

Martin says Mike Ditka’s alleged endorsement of “Ku Klux Klan Republican” Pat Hughes is a despicable act

Martin says that by supporting Hughes, Ditka is endorsing Hughes’ racist attacks on African-American Senate candidates

(CHICAGO)(October 12, 2009) Republican U. S. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin announced today, Monday October 12th, that he would launch a boycott and picketing of Mike Ditka’s Restaurant in Chicago on Thursday, October 15th.

“It is disgraceful that NFL Hall of Famer Mike Ditka has allegedly endorsed Pat Hughes, a candidate for U. S. Senate who is anti-labor and anti-Black. How does Mike explain his bizarre behavior to his NFL colleagues?

“Last week Pat Hughes, who claims he has been endorsed by Ditka, told African–Americans to leave the U. S. Senate primary. This blatant act of racism has overtones of the Ku Klux Klan.

“I have a lifetime of support for civil rights, and I unhesitatingly condemn Pat Hughes for suggesting Blacks are unwelcome in the Republican Party.

Hughes’ ‘closeted’ adviser D. Paul Caprio is a disgrace to the Christian Conservative movement. Hughes’ recent demand, issued by Caprio, that Blacks exit the U. S. Senate primary was based on a bogus ‘commitment’ that Caprio claims candidates gave him last summer.

In reality, Caprio’s entire ‘conservative leader’ operation was a financial scam designed to personally enrich Caprio and to impoverish the credibility of the Christian movement in Illinois.

“The entire Hughes campaign is a fraud. I would not be surprised to learn that Hughes is being bankrolled by Mark Kirk, because Pat is certainly not being bankrolled by the ‘$400,000 in commitments’ that Hughes claimed he had in August, and that turned out to be fictitious in September.

“I am appealing to Mike Ditka to cut any and all ties with Hughes. Hughes’ advocacy of racism and racial discrimination against African-Americans in the Republican Party is despicable.

“African-Americans are welcome in the Republican Party, and they are very welcome in my campaign. We must rebuild and recharge the great civil rights coalition that was led by Republican U. S. Senator Everett Dirksen and the many honorable Republicans who supported civil rights.

“Even though the African-American candidates Hughes has attacked are nominally my opponents, I will not tolerate racist attacks against them and I am prepared to lead the charge against Hughes’ malignant behavior. We will start picketing Ditka's at dinner on Thursday night, October 15th, and continue on with weekend protests. Ditka’s customers need to be warned their dining dollars are supporting racist activity by Ditka.

“Why Mike, why? How can you explain your lifetime of participation in the NFL with support for a racist insect such as Patrick Hughes?” Martin said in a letter to the NFL great.

Martin is discussing further civil rights action against Caprio and Hughes.

Dear Mike:

A few days ago you reportedly “endorsed” Patrick Hughes for the U. S. Senate. Mr. Hughes is a “Ku Klux Klan” Republican. Hughes has demanded, through his sleazy advisor D. Paul Caprio, that the two African-American candidates in the U. S. Senate primary leave the field. This is disgraceful.

By supporting Hughes you endorse Hughes' misconduct and racist attitudes.

The NFL was always a leader in civil rights progress.

I am working hard to rebuild the great Republican civil rights coalition that was led by legendary Illinois U. S. Senator Everett Dirksen. Hughes and his supporters want to restore Ku Klux Klan attitudes. For shame.

Why Mike, why? How can you explain your lifetime of participation in the NFL with support for a racist insect such as Patrick Hughes?”

Sincerely yours,

Mr. Martin,
Could your reference to Chicago being a 'strong NFL city' not only have something to do with Ditka though also the diversity of most NFL teams? You can't make a press release or related comment without appearing less than accepting of others, can you?

Also, maybe before accusing others of racism you can apologize for your own consistent insensitivity and grand-standing.

You are so correct in your comments to crazy Andy.

Martin is a good example of the pot calling the kettle BLACK. Martin is racist in his comments made over many years of grand-standing.

The sad part is the fact that he does not even realize he is a racist.

Ditka will laugh in his face.
