“Illinois Tough” U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin will charge at a Sunday (today) Belvidere news conference that the Rockford area would not have been ignored for federal stimulus funding if he had been in Washington. “The Boone-Winnebago-Stephenson region needs a Washington fighter, not another Washington insider,” Martin says. “My principal opponent Mark Kirk was said by the Chicago Sun-Times today (Sunday) to be hiding in a ‘bunker.’ If Kirk is hiding now, what will he be like after he is elected? My political activism spearheaded the development of I-39,” Martin notes. “Boone-Winnebago-Stephenson Counties need a vigorous advocate, not losers of the Quinn-Durbin variety. If Durbin can’t deliver for Illinois with his stooge in the White House, what is he going to do when Republicans take over in November?” Martin will state. Martin will also speak to Boone County Republicans at a Lincoln Day Luncheon. Martin promises to “Deliver for Downstate”

Andy Martin says Durbin and Quinn have failed to deliver for Boone-Winnebago-Stephenson Counties
Martin says that high-speed rail, not Toonerville Trolleys to Dubuque, should be the first priority
Martin says high-speed rail would tie Boone-Winnebago-Stephenson Counties to O’Hare and the Chicago area, creating a local economic boom
Andy promises to “Deliver for Downstate”
MARTIN HAS THE ONLY CAMPAIGN WEB SITE WITH A SPECIAL LINK SUPPORTING HIGH-SPEED PASSENGER TRAIN SERVICE
(CHICAGO)(January 31, 2010) “Illinois Tough” Republican U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin will hold a Belvidere (Boone County) news conference Sunday, January 31st to promise that he will lead a “Rockford Rail Revolution” when he becomes United States Senator. Martin says that Boone-Winnebago-Stephenson leaders have failed abysmally.
At his news conference Martin will brandish “studies” from as long as ten years ago to show the complete impotence of local representatives of both parties to move forward with rail service.
“Boone-Winnebago-Stephenson Counties have lacked an effective voice in the U. S. Senate. Dick Durbin has proven to be totally ineffective, even with his pet rock in the White House,” Martin says. “Pat Quinn? Don’t ask. If I had been in Washington the Boone-Winnebago-Stephenson area would not have been shut out of stimulus funding and high-speed rail cash. No one is going to run over me.
“I favor a ‘Manhattan Project’-style simultaneous design and build high-speed rail program to get America moving and get Illinois ‘on the right track, not the side track.’ Trains in staid Great Britain already go 200 miles an hour. Why should Americans be satisfied with less than half that, a decade from now?
“Governor Quinn’s face-saving promise Saturday to deliver Illinois capital funds for rail service is only a desperate, last-minute pre-primary device to stave off the embarrassment of having failed to deliver for Illinois.
“I believe that high-speed rail can only come through Belvidere to Rockford and Freeport. We want to connect an existing corridor of economic activity that can benefit from high-speed connections to the O’Hare and Chicago economies. We need to integrate Rockford Airport into the Chicago regional economy. What is in Genoa?
“Three decades ago I spearheaded the effort to upgrade Highway 51 into an Interstate highway. I have proven I can produce results. Illinois is falling further and behind other states. Dick Durbin is an effective stooge for labor racketeers and other special interests. But he has failed to deliver for ordinary Illinoisans. I will.
“I have the only campaign website [www.AndyforUSSenator.com] with a separate web page showcasing my commitment to high-speed train service [www.IllinoisHighSpeedTrains.com].
“In the Republican primary I am ‘primarily’ running against Mark Kirk, a man who doesn’t even know where ‘downstate’ is. The Chicago Sun-Times reports today that Kirk is hiding in a ‘bunker’ somewhere, maybe to avoid my ‘Bunker Busters.’
“I am not going to Washington to be an insider. I am going to represent the people of Illinois. Kirk can’t deliver his own presence in Boone-Winnebago-Stephenson. How is he going to deliver for the struggling economy of this region?
“High-speed rail. High-speed rail. High-speed rail. This region needs access to the national economy. We need to make Rockford Airport part of the national economy, not a leftover stopover. I will deliver that connection as U. S. Senator. I-39 shows I will ‘Deliver for Downstate.’ Has any Republican shown they can do better?
“We need hard-hitting bi-partisan competition in Washington, not a one—party government. I am the only candidate in either party with a long track record of fighting for ordinary citizens.”
Martin is making his last stop in the area before Tuesday’s primary.

Twas the night before primaries and all through the polls,
The Kirkster was leading without any holes.
Though Martin had tried with a negative ad,
He didn't succeed and the people were glad.
See they don't like a candidate who runs a campaign in the ruts,
and they will never cast a vote for the one they call nuts.
and as the polls closed on that cold February night,
you could hear the voters say a vote for Mark Kirk was only right.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
From the Chicago Gazette:
"We endorsed Martin two years ago, but this time around he’s made outrageous charges against Kirk that are way too extreme. This time, we feel the best choice is Arrington."
