(LAKE FOREST, IL)(August 5, 2009) After reserving a place for his campaign in the exclusive Lake Forest Day Parade, petulant Congressman Mark Kirk failed to appear at the event which was held Wednesday in the heart of his congressional district. Lake Forest is the last bastion of rock-solid Republicanism in Illinois.
Republican U. S. Senate candidate and insurgent “Internet Powerhouse” Andy Martin unleashed a dazzling display of the star power that is increasingly making him the favorite of rank-and-file Republicans in Illinois.
In perhaps a reminder that Kirk’s childless marriage had recently ended, Andy marched the entire length of the parade with a three year-old boy riding on his shoulders. Little children along the parade route screamed with joy as the airborne cherub flying on Andy’s shoulders passed by.
“Kirk has me beat in the cash department, for now,” Martin stated. “But we beat him today in front of his own people, in his own congressional district. We brought 'Fighting Illini' spirit to the parade. It was embarrassingly evident out there in plain sight for everyone to see. Kirk is a coward. For myself, I love children, and children love me, so the parade was a special moment. We had a blast campaigning in Lake Forest.” [The parade was taped by Lake Forest/Lake Bluff cable TV and will be rebroadcast for those interested in seeing Andy campaign.]
“Thirty years ago the Chicago Tribune called me an ‘absolutely brilliant campaigner.’ Today I demonstrated that I have lost none of the magic that makes me a threat in any election. The Tribune’s reporters today may be corrupt and dishonest, but the Tribune editorial board saw promise in me then, and that ability to generate excitement is stronger than ever.
“I am the only credible Republican candidate to run a tough campaign against the Democrats in 2010. Case closed. I would like to see any newspaper, except Kirk's weenies at IllinoisReview.com, call Kirk a ‘brilliant campaigner.’ We had a ‘Joe Louis moment’ in Lake Forest. Kirk was trying to hide but I knocked him out of the race.
“So-called conservatives can mutter about the mysterious ‘candidate’ they dream of, their own imaginary Obama-like savior. But elections are won with real campaigns, not delusions. I am real. I am out there. I know how to campaign and today I humiliated the liberal media's favorite, Mark Kirk.
“As a matter of simple justice and political common sense, I should be the Republican nominee. Republicans deserve their strongest and best campaigner as their standard bearer for the U. S. Senate. My forty years of broadcasting experience makes me a unique candidate. My worldwide experience and grasp of the issues is unparalleled.
“History will reflect that the Lake Forest Day Parade was the moment when Kirk’s subsequent campaign collapse began evident. If he can’t handle me in a primary, and realistically he can't, how does Kirkie expect to handle the Democrats in the general election? Or is he just a designated loser for the Daley Machine? Has Kirk been promised an appointment in the Obama administration? Is that the Kirk-Emanuel entente?
"Once again we see cable TV’s bloviating bobbleheads in New York, such as Sean Hannity and Keith Olbermann (now that’s an odd couple), promoting dead duck Kirk and trying to dictate to Illinois Republicans. My prediction: Kirk will take a job in the Obama administration, maybe working at a desk next to State Senator Kirk Dillard. Mark Kirk is through as a campaigner.”
Kirk’s increasingly bizarre behavior mystified his supporters and stunned local Republican leaders. Why had Kirk failed to appear in Lake Forest after reserving a place in the parade?
Kirk was apparently afraid to confront Martin’s allegations in a Lake Forest news conference that Kirk’s 2006 and 2008 reelection campaigns used racist tactics. Martin pointed out that Kirk’s tactics were part of an expansive pattern of racist behavior by Kirk that had been concealed by passive Chicago media; Kirk's despicable tactics had left him unwelcome in more than 20% of the state’s households. “How is Kirk going to run a campaign against the Democratic majority by demeaning voters with racist epithets?” Martin asked.
“We haven’t even gotten to the ‘good stuff’ about Kirk, and he’s already gone into hiding?” Martin asked. “The evidence that Kirk has repeatedly used racist tactics is there; that he maintains a racist ideology is unavoidable,” Martin says. “We are going to use it against him in the primary, and the Dems are going to demolish him if he beats me and limps to a primary victory.”
Kirk’s absence from a stellar event in one the most affluent communities in the United States demonstrated the extent of the stunning collapse in his popular support.
“He has some cash,” Martin said, “But he can’t ‘carry’ Republican primary voters. My campaign doesn't have enough money yet, but we are slowly going to strangle Kirk's sources of financial support. No one wants to back a dog that won't hunt. He can’t collect campaign cash by hiding from Republicans. Even ‘fat cats’ are not stupid.
“Today, Mark Kirk is dead meat as a senate candidate. I am going to call his buddy Rahm Emanuel and have Rahmmie send Kirk some of Emanuel’s legendary putrefying fish. Maybe they can cook it together.”
